Amy Lobb Photography: PADDLE OUT (for the ladies) →
i love this idea amylobb: I feel like I finally have enough female surf followers that I can throw this out there… A writer I know from Vancouver, Kate MacLennan, has added a section to her website called PADDLE OUT. It’s an effort to spread the hype of female surfing around the world. If you’re a chick and you love to…

Ban the Bag
Plastic bags in abundance has to be one of my biggest pet peeves - everyone and their mother gives out FREE reusable bags so what’s the excuse for going to the supermarket and leaving with 20 bags - usually each only containing one item.  It’s a massive waste, huge strain on the environment and hands down one of the easiest changes we as regular human beings can possibly do to help. ...

Many words in twenty seconds
I wish my days and nights weren’t so filled with obligations and I could spend more time venturing out into the city enjoying all of the events I get stoked on!  Family and friends expect more local art treasures coming across the sea this christmas…..I’m also getting a a lot of practice at squeezing event details into a short time slot.  Today’s Weekend Preview offering can be found...

The Wild Ones, Surfy Soul Jazz and wine!
This morning I made my monthly trip down to see the lovely Angela Carone and Maureen Cavanaugh for Midday Edition on KPBS.  Especially excited this month that a Surfindian Exhibit and party coincided with my week to present ideas for the weekend. I went down to the studios armed with mucho information about the gallery, the artists being featured and the band releasing their CD.  Unfortunately as...

Keeping it LoCal
Before I held the position of performance curator at The Loft and during the application process for said job I was asked to create an example vision of what programming in the space might look like should I be at the helm.  That vision included a regular event that would highlight food and drink, in particular local and sustainable practices around food and drink and the benefits to our taste...

$25 VERY well spent
In case you’re wondering no, i am not holding my own January harvest festival but every two weeks when i trundle off to the La Jolla Farmers market to pick up my veg box from the lovely folks at www.suziesfarm.com I am completely amazed and excited by whats waiting for me in a box under the table.  It’s true I love food and I’m not too snobby by any means but since joining their...

Previewing the weekend for the first time this... →
I always tell everyone i love going in to KPBS to do the weekend preview and sure enough it doesn’t get old for me.  It’s the best opportunity to leave my little bubble up at The Loft and delve around to find out what everyone else around town has going on and also somewhere I get to yap about events that I don’t have to organise.

Trial and error
Not relaxing easily when I only have half a day off, going into the kitchen for a few hours is my way to wind down.  I have recently embarked on a baking voyage (make no mistake I am right at the beginning of this) but without a) anyone to guide me and b) no recipe’s I trotted off to Great News (as its a 30 second walk around the corner and I had to have recipes right then!!) and bought this...
